Historical Site
In the 13th century, the Yakubi Saint Barshavma built the monastery in his name. A part of the monastery in the form of two adjacent structures has survived to the present day. The monastery is located north of the castle within the walls of Rumkale.
Barşavma Monastery, located at the archaeological site of Rumkale in Gaziantep, was built in the 13th century by Saint Barşavma. With its cross-vaulted architecture, cut stone craftsmanship, and the remnants that have stood the test of time, this unique historical site, where the Euphrates River meets the Merzimen Stream, is one of the significant structures that impressively reflects the region's rich historical and religious tourism heritage.
