The Women Martyrs Monument was erected by Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality in memory of 83 women who fell as martyrs during the War of Independence. It is the first monument in Turkey dedicated to female martyrs. According to General Staff records, 6,317 people from Antep were martyred in the War of Independence, of which 83 were women. Due to the burial of the martyr women in Boyacı Mosque, the monument was built in the courtyard of Boyacı Mosque in Şahinbey district.
