Mosque
Located in the centre of Gaziantep, this historical mosque is the oldest mosque in the city. Although it is not known exactly by whom the mosque was built, there are different narratives that it was constructed during the time of Caliph Hz. Ömer. Another name of the mosque is ‘Omereyn’ meaning Two Ömers. It is even possible to see traces of bullets and shrapnel fragments from the Antep Defence on the body of the minaret.
The Ömeriye Mosque, located in the Düğmeci neighborhood, stands out as the oldest mosque in Gaziantep and was renovated in 607 Hijri; it features a black-and-white stone crown gate, a minaret with intricate stone craftsmanship, and bullet marks from the Antep Defense, making it a unique structure of historical and visual significance.
