There is no definitive information about who commissioned the mosque and its construction date. However, it is mentioned in a document dated 1557. It is understood that it was repaired by Osman Pasha, the Governor of Maraş, in 1563. According to a rumor, the mosque was made of wood, which is why it is known as Tahtalı Mosque by the people.
Tahtani (Tahtalı) Mosque is an impressive mosque located next to Gaziantep Castle, mentioned in documents from 1557 and repaired in 1563 by Osman Pasha, the Governor of Maraş; it is popularly known as “Tahtalı” because it is said to be made of wood, elegantly witnessing the historical texture of the city.
