We start our gastronomy tour early in the morning at Tahmis Kahvesi. This historic place, serving since 1638, will take you on a journey through time. Here, amidst the sounds of coffee grinders echoing off the walls and the footsteps on the stone floor, you will feel like you are in old Antep. The aroma of roasting coffee mixes with the conversations echoing between the stone walls. You must try Gaziantep Menengiç Kahvesi here; this coffee combines both traditional and modern flavors. The slightly bitter taste of Menengiç will leave a pleasant impression on your palate.
After coffee, we walk through the history-soaked streets of Gaziantep to Bakırcılar Çarşısı. In this bazaar, as you wander among the meticulously crafted handicrafts, you can immerse yourself in the echoes of copper's melodic sounds. The atmosphere in the Copper Bazaar will make you feel how deep-rooted Antep's craftsmanship is. While the artisans showcase their works reflecting years of experience, you can also discover the stories behind these rare pieces.
For lunch, we head to Gaziantep Mutfak Sanatları Merkezi. Here, you can experience the delicacies of Gaziantep cuisine. The menu features unique flavors such as Gaziantep Küşleme Kebabı and Yeni Dünya Kebabı. The melt-in-your-mouth taste of the meats and the harmony of the spices will enchant you. Dining in Antep is not just a necessity, but also a sensory experience; the colors and aromas on the plates will captivate you.
In the afternoon, we visit Zeugma Mozaik Müzesi, one of Gaziantep's most famous museums. This place is mesmerizing with the colors and details of the exhibited mosaics. These mosaics from ancient times showcase the lifestyle and artistic skills of that era. Here, you will once discover the richness and cultural heritage of Zeugma Antik Kenti. As you wander through the museum's quiet corridors, you will feel as if you can hear the stories each mosaic wants to tell.
Finally, we stop by Hışvahan for a sweet closing. Here, you can taste Gaziantep's famous desserts Gaziantep Fıstık Ezmesi and Burmalı Kadayıf, and unwind from the day's fatigue. While sitting in the courtyard of Hışvahan, you will enjoy experiencing Antep's unique flavors once again. Tahmis Kahvesi, built in 1638 by Mustafa Aga, a Turkmen Aga and Sancak Beyi, to bring income to the lodge (Mevlevikhane), is a two-storey building full of memories. Tahmis means ‘the place where coffee is pounded’. According to a narrative, Murat IV rested here during the Baghdad Expedition and was served coffee at Tahmis Coffee House.
Generally referred to as the Copper Bazaar, it is a complex of bazaars where many artisans produce their crafts. Although the exact construction date of the shops located in the Copper Bazaar is not known, it is believed to have been built in the 16th century. The bazaar consists of single-story shops and is located within the caravanserai district. The art of copperworking, which gives the bazaar its name, continues to thrive intensely today.
The Culinary Arts Centre is open every day for those who want to discover Gaziantep's rich culinary culture and gastronomic heritage and experience local pot dishes.
Gaziantep Zeugma Mosaic Museum is the largest mosaic museum in the world in terms of the colour scale of the mosaics exhibited. In the museum, which is one of the important museums in the world with its original exhibition organised according to the modern museology concept, approximately 3000 m² of mosaics, which were excavated from the ancient city of Zeugma located on the banks of the Euphrates River and whose restoration and conservation have been completed so far, are displayed.
Hışva Han, which has been restored in accordance with its original form by Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, started serving as a hotel-restaurant-shop in August 2016. The restaurant section of Hışvahan, which represents Gaziantep's culinary culture in all categories of dishes at national and international competitions, has succeeded in reaching thousands of people with the recipes and flavors it learned from its ancestors and still strives to preserve. In both the accommodation and restaurant sections of Hışvahan, it is possible to see the stones, marbles, coppers, and mother-of-pearl inlay handicrafts that are specially used in Gaziantep's home-making. This inn, which serves as an example of carefully preserving and developing cultural heritage, hosts thousands of guests every year. Its location, directly opposite Gaziantep Castle and on the cultural route of the historical bazaar, makes the inn even more attractive.
